This news is significant for two reasons:1) SSAT students now have even more resources with which to prepare for the SSAT.2) This suggests that the SSAT might follow in the footsteps of the TOEFL and ACT in transitioning to computer-based testing.Similar to how the College Board partnered with Khan Academy to create an online SAT test-preparation website, the SSAT has created its own online SSAT test-preparation website and partnered with Math Is Fun, IXL, and other online learning websites to deliver lessons to students preparing to the SSAT. This can be seen as an effort made by the SSATB (the organization that created and organizes the SSAT) to grant access to student who, for whatever reason, are unable or unwilling to take SSAT classes like those offered by EIC New Pathway and Central Academy. While students will definitely benefit from the increased access to SSAT test preparation, the vast majority of students looking to matriculate to America’s top boarding and independent schools will still need to take SSAT classes with an experienced SSAT teacher to achieve the SSAT scores necessary to gain admission.Additionally, and perhaps more significantly, this recent move to the digital realm for their test preparation products suggests that the SSAT might be planning to move to computer-based testing. This move follows in the footsteps of the TOEFL, which began administering a computer-based version of TOEFL exam in 2005, and the ACT, which has announced its intention to move to computer-adaptive testing in 2017 for all international ACT test centers.
