Mike dreamed that an earthquake was coming. The ground shook with violence as tree after tree, building after building crumbled to the ground. There was yelling, screaming and roaring of wild animals. Things started to make less and less sense: tigers are running up the streets, a volcano erupted nearby and a centipede about 10 meters long jumped out of the volcano sending people screaming, the centipede backed Mike towards the ocean, and as Mike turned, he saw a wave of red blood, as tall as a 10-story-tall building, pouring down at him!

Mike woke up with a start, his heart pounding. The morning sunlight streaked through his eyelids, and he grabbed for his clock to see what time it is. But it wasn’t there. Mike shook his head, and yawned. He opened his eyes, and was paralysed by what he had saw. Ten of thousands of American bison were grazing on grass on a giant plain! There was no people here, but there surely was wildlife. You can hear bird tweeting everywhere, and bison moaning softly. You can even hear roars from the distant. Where am I? Mike thought, more shocked than afraid, have I just woke up and found myself on a wild plain on Africa? Then Mike started to remember: he had not just woke up and got here, he was in the backyard of his house, opening a gift from Grandpa Jones. The gifts of Grandpa Jones, which were the two small mirrors, had sucked him in, and the next time he woke up he was here. Was it possible that the mirror Grandpa Jones sent as a gift took him here? There was no time to think, he had to think of a way to get out of here and go back home. If this is really Africa, then there should be civilization, and these people can take him home. He started to walk, then run, not know which direction is which, and raced through the trees.

It is about an hour after Mike started searching and he still didn’t find any civilization. All he see on the way is huge bison walking as a herd on a large migration. He spot a tree and sat in its shade to rest. In front of him were endless mountains, the hue of the mountains got lighter and lighter as the mountains went farther and farther. Conifer trees were everywhere, and the bright sun shone in the morning sky. It seems like a beautiful view. But Mike was nearly desperate now, and as he looked at his surroundings, he found that there was not a single house, not a single human being out there in this wild plain. As he was in deep thought, he heard a shriek of surprise and joy. As he turned around, he felt as if his heart had been set off by waves, and a large smile spread across his face. It was the shriek of a human being, a girl, precisely, about 12, the same age as him, she has beautiful blond hair and the smile that’s spread across on her face was even greater than his.

“Yes!” she screamed, and without even realizing it herself, she hugged Mike. Mike was bewildered. “Hey, h-hey, what’s going on?” Mike said, as he lightly pushed the girl away. With a fast speed and excitement she said, “Hi happy ’o see you my name’s Annie ’n you know what I was in m’ bathroom and suddenly I was gone, just gone ’n then---” “Wow,” Mike said, “don’t be so excited, Annie, say slowly, and calmly…” “OK,” the girl called Annie said, “My name is Annie. I am in my bathroom two days ago, it is 2014, but then something weird happened, “I was looking at my mirror and suddenly I was sucked into it; when I opened my eyes, here I was in the Pleistocene!” “The what?” Mike asked, getting more and more nervous, the fact that Annie too was sucked into a mirror and came here wasn’t pleasant to hear.“The Pleistocene!” Annie said, “The time of the ice age!”
