工欲善其事必先利其器
我们在开始学习英语的时候，每个人必备一本英汉或者英英词典，因为遇到生词，我们必须借助这样的工具书，去了解它的含义和用法。可是，有多少人会准备另一种非常有用的工具书Thesaurus？
你可能问：什么是Thesaurus？为什么要使用它？Thesaurus这个词来源于希腊，意为宝库。如同其他词汇一样，含义逐渐演化，现在是指同义词（或反义词）词典。
大家看看下面一段文字，是不是在我们的习作中很常见:
Winter is normally a cold time of year, but last January was unbelievable cold. The river froze, but the cold air made skating unbearable! I couldn’t wait for spring to arrive so the cold weather would end.
用了一串的“cold”来形容冷，是不是有些单调？如果查阅Thesaurus，学习几个形容冷的词，我们可以把上面那段文字修改如下：
Winter is normally a chilly time of year, but last January was truly frigid. The river froze, but the glacial air made skating unbearable! I couldn’t wait for spring to arrive so the cold weather would end.
同义词典通过辨别词语之间细微的差别，可以帮助我们更有效、更准确、更形象地表达我们的思想，避免遣词造句的重复单调，筛选符合文体的用词（比如口语或者书面用语），帮助我们学习运用新词，扩大我们的词汇量。
由此可见，Thesaurus 是我们学好英语必不可少的工具，对我们的词汇和写作学习有积极的作用。
我们再来看一个实例，如何运用Thesaurus遣词造句：
原句：A thesaurus is used to find words that are interesting to use in place of other words and is used to make texts that are more interesting.
使用同义词典修改后：
A thesaurus is used to identify vocabulary that is interesting to utilize in place of other words and is employed to create texts that are more engaging.
显然，第一句话浅白，口语化，第二句的用词更正式。借助词义的辨析，我们也扩展了词汇量“find—identify”、“use—utilize—employ”、“interesting—engaging”。
我在教学中，经常读到小朋友的习作，词汇匮乏是极常见的问题。要解决这个问题，除了多阅读，另一个改善的方法就是学会使用thesaurus，并且经常翻阅，多做总结归纳，触类旁通。
